The main contractor is the supervisory contractor of all construction work on a project, management of sub-contractors and vendors, etc. May be referred to as "Construction Manager," however, for consistency CTBUH uses the term "Main Contractor" exclusively.
Accolade tower is designed primarily to exploit the natural views around it. It announces its significant presence to its context in a benevolent manner. The intersection of Eglinton Avenue and the Don Valley Parkway not only provides good access to the site, it also provides wide open vistas, much of which are green valley lands. It is also tied into an existing community to the south and east, which includes a hotel immediately adjacent. The building is a point tower with a small floor plate and a ten-story articulated podium, all designed to emphasize the slenderness and verticality of the tower as it is intended to be the focal point of this street intersection. The building is a combination of glass and precast concrete designed so as to place emphasis on verticality and symmetry appropriate for its dominant location.
Notable sustainable measures implemented include: reduced site disturbance, potable water reduction of 57% in landscape irrigation, 37% water use reduction, and more than 75% construction waste diverted from landfills.
