Changzhou Modern Media Center is located in Xinbei district of Changzhou, which is a newly developed urban area. The form of the tower is inspired by the 1,300 year-old Tianning Temple, which is the most famous historic building in Changzhou. The project intends to represent a pagoda, which in traditional Chinese culture is thought to bring good fortune. The lower part of the main tower is office space, and the higher section is a Marriott hotel. The top of the tower consists of luxury apartments and an observatory.
The complex consists of multiple functions, including radio and TV broadcasting, office, hotel, retail, theater and residential. To avoid the negative impact of a superblock on the surrounding area, the tower’s podium is divided into smaller blocks, forming internal streets that can be navigated at pedestrian scale. The placement of the tower on site is intended to maximize its contribution to the urban landscape, and to reduce the blockage of light to the residential buildings behind.
