Rising from the historic city center surrounding Zhongshan Square, Dalian International Trade Center is among the first supertall buildings to emerge from this historic port city’s rapidly growing skyline. The mixed-use building is comprised of a six story retail podium topped with luxury apartments on floors 8 through 54 and then offices through the 84th floor. The tower is then crowned with a clubhouse and a rooftop helipad. Below grade, the tower reaches seven stories deep into the ground with subterranean parking and commercial space.
The tower is shaped as a rectangle with four chamfered corners and maintains this form as it rises vertically. The building is constructed as a composite structure, with a core and outrigger system comprised of concrete core and perimeter columns supporting floor plates framed with steel beams. The perimeter structure is then supplemented with belt trusses every 16th floor and at the tower’s crown to enhance its lateral stiffness. The exterior is sheathed in approximately 73,000 square meters of glass and aluminum curtain wall with strong vertical lines culminating into an elaborate diamond pattern at the top.
The building is well connected to its surrounding neighborhood, with several major public transportation and gathering spaces within walking distance. The tower has become an instant focal point for the skyline of the fast changing central business district located in a strip of land between the city’s famous harbor and a series of rolling green hills to the south.
