The main contractor is the supervisory contractor of all construction work on a project, management of sub-contractors and vendors, etc. May be referred to as "Construction Manager," however, for consistency CTBUH uses the term "Main Contractor" exclusively.

Habitat is a project fundamentally informed by its context. The tower realizes the latent potential of a small site adjacent to an elevated section of the West Gate freeway and gives physical expression to the site’s challenging constraints. Small windows punched into precast facades face the freeway. When viewed from a distance the windows, which are subtlety different in size, blend into a singular, city scale gesture, lending the building a strong identity amidst the anonymity of Southbank’s high-rise apartment buildings, referencing the sound waves that the building has been designed to negate.
In recognition of the site constraints, the building adopts an innovative approach to the provision of resident amenity. The residential apartments are clustered around large three-story sky gardens. Opening to the east, the communal gardens afford expansive views over central Melbourne and eastern suburbs while taking advantage of the most climatically benign of the building’s aspects.
