The main contractor is the supervisory contractor of all construction work on a project, management of sub-contractors and vendors, etc. May be referred to as "Construction Manager," however, for consistency CTBUH uses the term "Main Contractor" exclusively.
The Loop, a new district on the outskirts of Ghent, has been developed as a new complex of residential, commercial, and office buildings which can serve as a stand-alone community. The MG Tower is located at the edge of this development at the ramp for the major Ghent–Bruges motorway. Creating an icon for the Loop, MG Tower is a unique and striking geometrical tower that marks the entrance to the district.
The tower houses the activities of KBC Bank along with several semi-public amenities including a 200-seat auditorium and numerous meeting spaces, located in the podium. Atop the two-story podium sits a large roof garden which is accessible to building occupants.
The stone and glass cladding of the building creates a sharply defined language which contributes to the impression of the building, but also provides a high-performing façade which mitigates heat loss and gain.
