The Hyde is a residential tower built within a compact urban site in the heart of Sydney’s central business district. All apartments are designed to face north with spectacular views across Hyde Park towards the Sydney harbor and the Opera House. The northern elevation is a transparent glass façade housing verandas off the main living spaces. This all-glass façade is protected by horizontal sunshades at each floor. Structural members are set back 3 meters (9.8 feet) to allow the full width of each apartment to be opened up to the frontage with sliding doors.
At the foot of the building a series of vertical aluminum fins define the podium which relates to the scale of the street and creates a datum to the historic Downing Centre adjacent. The linear aluminum fins also house planters with creepers; as they grow over time they will enhance the relationship to the greenery of Hyde Park. All apartments have operable windows to allow for natural ventilation. The mullions are also designed with proprietary acoustic ventilators which can be controlled by the users to allow fresh air in while reducing the street noise.
